ProFilm Meter - Privacy Policy

Last Updated: March 8, 2026

Introduction

ProFilm Meter is a film photography light meter and director's viewfinder application developed in collaboration between Scott Henderson Photography and Zebra Dry Plates. This privacy policy explains how the app handles your data.

The short version: ProFilm Meter is designed to work entirely on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your personal data on external servers.

Data Collected and How It Is Used

Camera Access

ProFilm Meter uses your device camera to meter light and display a director's viewfinder. Camera frames are analyzed on your device in real time to calculate exposure values (EV), histogram data, and color temperature estimates. Camera data is never recorded, transmitted, or shared. When you save a journal entry, a snapshot of the current viewfinder frame is stored locally on your device.

Location Access

The app may request access to your device location (GPS) to calculate environmental and UV compensation factors based on your geographic position (altitude, latitude). Location data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to any server or third party. Location access is optional and the app functions fully without it.

Local Storage

ProFilm Meter stores the following data locally on your device using on-device storage:

Exposure settings and preferences (ISO, aperture, shutter speed configurations)

Light meter calibration data

Custom film stock configurations

Journal entries (exposure data and viewfinder snapshots)

Gear settings (lenses, film formats, aperture selections)

App preferences (language, display options)

Onboarding and calibration reminder states

All of this data remains on your device. It is never uploaded, synced, or transmitted externally.

Photos and Media

When you save a journal entry, a viewfinder snapshot is stored in the app's local storage. If you choose to export or share a journal entry, it is shared through your device's native sharing interface. The app does not independently upload or transmit your photos.

Data We Do Not Collect

ProFilm Meter does not collect, use, or transmit any of the following:

Personal information (name, email, phone number, address)

Account credentials (there are no user accounts)

Usage analytics or telemetry

Crash reports or diagnostics to external services

Advertising identifiers

Device identifiers or fingerprints

Browsing or search history

Contact information

Financial or payment data

Third-Party Services

ProFilm Meter does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. The app does not contain ads. No data is shared with third parties.

Offline Operation

ProFilm Meter is designed as an offline-first application. All core features — light metering, viewfinder, exposure calculations, spectral sensitivity adjustments, reciprocity correction, and the exposure guide — function without an internet connection. No network connection is required for the app to operate.

Data Security

Since all data is stored locally on your device, it is protected by your device's built-in security features (screen lock, encryption, etc.). We do not have access to any of your data.

Children's Privacy

ProFilm Meter does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since the app does not collect personal data, it is suitable for use by all ages.

Data Deletion

All app data is stored locally on your device. You can delete all app data at any time by:

Clearing the app's data through your device settings

Uninstalling the app

No residual data remains on any external server after deletion, because no data is ever sent to external servers.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
